SEPTEMBER 10, 2025 / STURGEON COUNTY, AB – Alberta’s Industrial Heartland is set to see a major boost in rail infrastructure as Cando Rail & Terminals expands its Sturgeon Terminal, one of the region’s key rail hubs. The project, supported by a $100 million loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB), will double the terminal’s capacity, enhancing first mile, last mile rail services and helping Alberta businesses move Canadian-made goods to national and international markets.
The new Sturgeon West Terminal will add up to 3,700 railcar storage and staging spaces, including capacity for unit trains with Class 1 railways. The expansion is expected to create up to 50 new local jobs and support industrial producers in the Heartland by improving supply chain efficiency and market access.
Construction is underway, with operations expected to begin in late 2026.
