On November 9, Shell Canada and its partner Silicon Ranch have announced plans to build a 58-megawatt solar farm adjacent to Shell’s Scotford Refinery and Chemicals Park in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland. Shell indicated all of the power generated by the new solar farm will be dedicated for at least 25 years to the Scotford Refinery. The project is expected to produce enough renewable electricity to provide 20% of the Refinery’s energy needs. Construction will begin in 2022 and the solar farm is expected to begin providing electricity to the refinery by Q4 2023.
