JULY 2, 2026 / STURGEON COUNTY, AB – Pembina Pipeline Corp., together with Morgan Stanley Infrastructure Partners and Kineticor Asset Management, has reached a positive final investment decision on the Greenlight Electricity Centre, a major new power generation project in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland.
The Greenlight Electricity Centre will be a 932-megawatt combined-cycle natural gas facility located in Sturgeon County and represents approximately $4.6 billion in total capital investment, including financing costs. The project is expected to enter service in the second half of 2030.
The facility will provide dedicated power for a data centre customer while creating significant new demand for Alberta natural gas. Once operational, the plant will require approximately 150 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, supporting production, transportation and processing activity across the region.
The project will utilize advanced combined-cycle technology from Siemens Energy and has been designed with future expansion potential, allowing generation capacity to grow to as much as 1,864 megawatts.
The development represents another major investment in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, strengthening the region’s role as a hub for energy infrastructure, power generation and industrial growth. By delivering new power supply without increasing demand on Alberta’s existing electricity grid, the project supports continued investment and long-term economic development throughout the region.
