Dow Reaffirms Path2Zero Investment, Targeting Late-2029 Commissioning

FEBRUARY 5, 2026 / FORT SASKATCHEWAN, AB – Dow confirmed last week its continued commitment to advancing Path2Zero, a world-scale, net-zero manufacturing asset in Alberta’s Industrial Heartland.

The $10 billion CAD capital investment was reaffirmed during Dow’s Q4 results announcement and subsequent conference call, where the company confirmed an updated project timeline. Phase One is now targeting commissioning in late 2029, with Phase Two expected to come online the following year. The timing adjustment aligns the project with anticipated market recovery while preserving long-term value creation.

“After careful analysis and collaboration with all of our project partners, we have determined that completing the project with a two-year delay is the most value-creating option,” Dow’s Chair and CEO, Jim Fitterling, said during the call. “This moves Phase One startup to late 2029 and remains the best option in support of our long-term value creation goals.”

Dow’s announcement reinforces Alberta’s Industrial Heartland as one of the most competitive jurisdictions for large-scale industrial investment. The region offers reliable access to low-cost natural gas liquids (NGL) feedstock, globally competitive infrastructure, and established pathways for operational decarbonization—key drivers of long-term cost advantage and asset resilience.

Once complete, Path2Zero is expected to deliver substantial and durable economic benefits, including direct and indirect employment, increased municipal and provincial tax revenue, expanded supply-chain activity, and long-term industrial diversification for the region.

“Dow’s ongoing commitment to the Path2Zero project underscores the Industrial Heartland’s strength as a destination for major, globally competitive industrial investment and highlights the region’s role in driving sustainable growth, advanced industrial opportunities, and long-term economic benefits,” said AIHA Executive Director Mark Plamondon. “The two-year timing adjustment is expected to align well with global market conditions.”

For global investors seeking scalable, low-cost, and increasingly low-carbon manufacturing platforms, Alberta’s Industrial Heartland continues to demonstrate the fundamentals required to support long-term capital deployment and sustained value creation.
