Fort Saskatchewan, Aberta – Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association (AIHA) is proudly celebrating its 25th anniversary as a cornerstone of economic development, innovation, and sustainability in the province.
“Alberta’s Industrial Heartland Association has been a driving force behind the success and sustainability of our region’s industrial sector for the past 25 years,” said Mark Plamondon, AIHA’s executive director. “As we celebrate this significant milestone, we look forward to building on our successes and continuing to work with all stakeholders towards a prosperous, innovative, and environmentally responsible future.”
History of AIHA
The Fort Saskatchewan Regional Industrial Association was established in 1981 to support industrial activity in the region. At the time, there was only a handful of companies in the area, the first in which broke ground in the 1950s. As industrial growth continued, AIHA was established to promoting responsible industrial development that balances economic growth with environmental stewardship.
AIHA began with only four members: City of Fort Saskatchewan, Lamont County, Strathcona County, and Sturgeon County and 197 square kilometers but soon the City of Edmonton joined the non-profit organization. As word grew about the opportunity, so too did the number of companies in the region and it grew to its current size of 582 square kilometres.
