SEPTEMBER 17, 2026 / STURGEON COUNTY, AB – Wolf Midstream has reached a final investment decision on a $500-million expansion of its NGL North System, adding natural gas processing, NGL separation and rail capacity to its integrated system in northern Alberta and Alberta’s Industrial Heartland.
The Phase Three expansion will add approximately 600 million cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of natural gas processing capacity and expand Wolf’s ability to recover, separate, and transport natural gas liquids (NGL), including ethane, propane, butane, and condensate.
A significant portion of the expansion is located within Alberta’s Industrial Heartland at Wolf Feedstock Separation (WFS) in Sturgeon County. The facility will receive recovered NGL from Wolf’s northern Alberta recovery facilities before separating them into high-purity products for domestic and international markets.
The WFS expansion will add a third de-ethanizer tower, increasing the facility’s total NGL production capacity to approximately 110,000 barrels per day, including more than 80,000 barrels per day of ethane.
Wolf is also adding a 37-megawatt natural gas-fired cogeneration facility at WFS to provide heat and power for the site. The facility is expected to be operational in 2028.
The company is expanding its unit-train rail terminal at WFS as well, bringing initial rail loading capacity to approximately 60,000 barrels per day to accommodate Wolf and third-party volumes. The expanded rail facility is expected to be in service later this year.
The Phase Three expansion also includes new NGL recovery capacity at two facilities in northern Alberta. Once complete, the Wolf Recovery Facility 1 near Mariana Lake and Wolf Recovery Facility 2 northwest of Fort McMurray will have combined processing capacity of more than 2.1 Bcf/d, with recovered NGL transported by pipeline to WFS for separation.
The expansion continues the development of Wolf’s integrated NGL North System, which is ultimately designed to handle approximately 3 Bcf/d of natural gas and produce up to 170,000 barrels per day of NGL.
For Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, the investment adds further processing and transportation infrastructure to a region supporting growing demand for value-added energy and chemical products in domestic and international markets.
