The City of Fort Saskatchewan is situated directly northeast of the province’s capital city, Edmonton.
As the gateway to Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, Fort Saskatchewan is a growing community spanning 4,642 hectares (11,470 acres) and home to just over 21,000 people. Located along the bank of the North Saskatchewan River, Fort Saskatchewan provides access to miles of scenic riverbank, parks, trails, green space, and recreation opportunities.
Fort Saskatchewan’s business climate is healthy and growing. With a combined primary and secondary market of over 275,000 people, opportunities continue to expand. Just a few years ago, what were once empty fields on the south side of highways 15 and 21, are now home to the spectacular Dow Centennial Centre, new housing developments, and two commercial power centres. Several hundred home-based businesses operate in the city, in addition to 646 commercial and industrial companies. These companies range in size from small business to big box stores to world scale industrial sites such as Sherritt International, Dow Chemical and Agrium, providing the City of Fort Saskatchewan with a vast range of services and products.
As a resident of Fort Saskatchewan, one enjoys a wide variety of recreation, sports, and cultural activities and facilities. The Dow Centennial Centre plays a key role in the city, providing everything from an ice arena to a 550 seat performing arts theatre. Additional amenities include a well-equipped health care centre, education options ranging from Catholic to public to French immersion to Christian schools, as well as curbside recycling programs and community youth groups.
Fort Saskatchewan’s uniqueness is highlighted by a campground on the bank of the North Saskatchewan River, historic sites such as the CN station, and best of all – the sheep grazing program that employs a wooly herd of 40 to maintain the grass and weeds throughout the summer.
